Swiss Energy
Background and status
The Swiss federal government implements part of its energy and climate policies through the programme SwissEnergy, which is responsible for the progress in energy efficiency and the implementation of additional renewable sources of energy. Thus SwissEnergy helps substantially to achieve the targets of Swiss energy and climate policies, including reducing the country’s dependency on fossil energy resources located abroad.
Mission
The targets of SwissEnergy are based on the Energy Act, the Kyoto Agreement and the CO2 Act. They aim to reach by 2010
• A reduction of CO2 emissions by 10% by compared to 1990;
• A limitation of increase in electricity consumption to a maximum of 5% compared to 2000;
• An increase of renewable forms of energy by 500 Mio kWh for electricity, and by 3’000 Mio kWh for heat-production.
Expertise
The expertise of SwissEnergy covers most activities for energy efficiency with special focus on buildings, industrial processes and electric appliances. In addition there is expertise for all renewable sources of energy relevant in Switzerland.
Partners
To ensure it has the needed backing to attain the targets, the SwissEnergy programme relies on close partnership with organisations of the private sector, the cantons and municipalities. Thus the investments of the federal government are approximately tripled.
